The P—it’s your power; it’s who you are. It creates your reality and controls your life. It can make you smile in the midst of sorrow. It keeps you pushing forward when everything is trying to push you back. Your P can bring you love, success, and happiness; that’s IF you know how to use it properly! The P—“what is behind your eyes holds more power than what is in front of them” (Gary Zukav)—is your perception.
Queens, happiness is a choice. Success is a choice. And most importantly, love is a choice.
The choices we make are tied to our perception. Perception is defined as the ability to see, hear, or become aware of something through the senses. How you view life, situations, the world, and simply everything is your perception.
Change the way you look at things and the things you look at will change.
Many of us, even myself at one point, can’t achieve a certain level of happiness, success, and love because we suffer from the “But God” syndrome— that’s when we allow our perceptions to become clouded with pessimism and magnified by our losses instead of gains.
A young lady can have a blossoming career, tons of loving friends, a roof over her head, and still utter the words “but God! I am still single. When are you going to let me get in my next relationship? I’m tired of being patient.”
After months of being unemployed, God finally blesses you with a career. Six months later… “but God! I’m tired of working all of these hours! I want a pay raise! I’m tired of doing this type of work! My boss and coworkers are getting on my nerves!”
You’ve spent months of being single and getting approached by peasants. You’ve finally get with a King who loves, respects and appreciates you as a Queen.. “but God!!! He doesn’t do this; he doesn’t do that! He doesn’t communicate the way I like. He’s not affectionate enough! He doesn’t have the 6 pack like my old boo Johnny!”
Do you see the trend?
Sometimes the way we perceive a problem is already part of the problem.
How can God promote you in life when you are constantly complaining about the blessings in front of you? You can get a job promotion, pay raise, more affection from your King, and you will STILL find something new to complain about.
Life is 10% of what happens to you, and 90% of how you react to it.
In my “Creating Your Queendom” post, I opened up about my unemployment season and struggles. I kept praying and praying, “Lord please bless me with an amazing job.”
It wasn’t until I became content in my season of unemployment that God opened a new season of employment for me. I had to trust God and say, “You know what God, You already know the desires of my heart. And in Your Word, you told me to not worry because you will open the windows of heaven and overflow me with blessings. So, instead of me choosing impatience, depression, and anxiety, I’m going to choose happiness, joy, and contentment because I already know You are working behind the scenes in my favor. This isn’t a season of unemployment. This is a season of preparation for my purpose.”
Now please do not mistake my positive perception for laziness—I still had to do my part (apply to jobs, interview well, resume building, go to job fairs, network, etc), or persevere.
Galatians 6:9 says, “So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.”
We have to learn the art of persevering while upholding a positive perception about our present.
It’s okay that you want a career change or promotion. It’s okay that you desire your King. It’s okay that you want better circumstances for yourself. But I challenge you to pursue those desires with happiness. Change your “but God” to a “but thank you God”.
“I may be single, but thank you God for protecting me from those unworthy peasants I ‘loved’. I have the freedom to do whatever my heart desires without answering to anyone but You. No relationship = no relationship problems.”
“My man may not be the tallest or finest, but thank you God for sending me a King who is intelligent, hardworking, loyal and attentive to my needs.”
“I hate having this 9-5, but thank you God for giving me a source of income. I can now start putting aside money for that business I always dreamed of starting.”
“I want to work in marketing, but thank you God for letting me start off in sales. I will take advantage of the sales opportunities in front of me and make them work to my advantage to prepare me for my marketing career. In the meantime, I will continue to apply to marketing jobs and network.”
Do you get the point?
Happy people are happy because they know how to see the good in every situation. Successful people are successful because they know how to make every circumstance work in their favor. If you want love, success, and happiness, you have to choose it.
Your mentality will always manifest in your reality. Believe you are blessed, and you will be blessed. Believe you are a queen, and you will walk into your Queendom. Believe you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you, and you will break barriers and persevere through anything.
FAILURE has 7 letters, but so does SUCCESS. HURT has 4 letters, but so does HEAL. SAD has 3 letters, but so does JOY. Transform every negative energy into a positive one. Simply put, when life throws lemons, make lemonade. :-)
There is power in your perception, Queen. Change it.
